John Coutts

          John Coutts is a poet, performer, author and translator. Over the past thirty years he has written extensively for BBC radio  and published many books and articles in the fields of literature and religion. 

          As a poet, John believes that obscurity is not profundity, and that obscenity is not originality. He writes entertaining and “accessible” verse, much of which is intended for public performance as well as private reading.

        John - whose qualifications include a first class degree in English Language and Literature from Oxford University - is also a linguist with a wide knowledge of European literature. He has helped to translate The Complete Works of Alexander Pushkin from Russian into English.

       As a  contribution to the Royal Shakespeare Company's "Open Stages" project, John has written "Shakespeare in Stirling"  for the Riverside Drama Club.  (Please see John's Blog for more information)

        John is an experienced broadcaster. His "Thought for the Day" is  - a frequent feature on BBC Radio Scotland, and he is a member of the "Sunday Reflections" team on Central FM, based in Falkirk. John's "Thinkaloud" column appears in "Salvationist"  and he writes regular "News Assembly" scripts for  Secondary Assembly File (published by Optimus Education) .
